About this Case Study Guide. Dialogue
between people can be heard at many different levels. For every episode of the
show, we study the transcript -- even more than we did during the editing of
the show for broadcast -- to formulate our toughest questions to find any of
the deep-seated truths that, if not further explored, may be missed.
For this episode we risk a little. True scholars
report their results; they're not encumbered with a need to be politically
correct. So, when the distinquished Prof. Dr. Michael Novak's research leads
him to conclude that there is a relation between the Judeao-Christian culture
and the evolution of science, business and capitalism in the USA, we listened.
The politically-correct cry out, "Wait a minute. That can't be true."
We are not so inclined to jump to judgment.
Instead we want to ask, "In what ways is it true?"
That we as a global community are desperately
struggling with issues of religion, faith and values has become a tragic
truism. There is a short trip between fundamentalism and fanaticism, and
between compromise and being compromised.
We need a common language about values; and within
each of these study guides for an episode of the show, we attempt to find it.
Michael Novak has challenged us to examine the
roots of capitalism and innovation. He has challenged us to recognize the role
of small business as the backbone of both. Within "small" the truth is less
difficult to find. It is not hiddden within layers of time's history.
