Reflections on the meaning and value of life and the soul of the United States of America.

There is profound beauty in the soul of this nation

Sydney, Australia: Ken Duncan believes the heart of the United States of America is good. The identity of this nation, deep within her soul, is a belief "In God We Trust." It is not as an expression of religious fundamentalism; these fundamentals have everything to do with first principles* such as freedom, value, truth, creativity, hope, and charity. And often, these words are also used by people in their attributions to their God.

In this episode of our show, we travel to Sydney to spend time with a man who sees certain perfections throughout this world. Ken is forever trying to capture those perfect moments on film, and then to translate these moments to print so people can truly see the magnificance of all of creation around us.

He wants us all to stop and count our blessings
and see the big picture. The photographs in the book,
America Wide, will take your breath away.

As we all live through these difficult and critical times,
we all must strive for a more integrative understanding
of that which defines our humanity.

Utah at sunset. All of us here will struggle with you from the first person perspective of people who are creating value in the world. In selecting the subject of our show, we are guided by three fundamental principles* that are shared by all of the sciences, all religions, the best of business, and the best of governments. In their highest form, principle becomes transformed into best of all possible art.

Ken Duncan is a principled man and his work breathes life into the meaning of these principles
and the art of the impossible.

  • What is business? This is the first of eight points within the case study guide for this episode of the show. These guides were initially prepared for the PBS special broadcast of each episode into every college and university throughout the USA. Thomson Learning and Prentice Hall have included many of these case studies (with a video cip) in their best-selling MBA textbooks.

* First principles: The first principle that defines our humanity is our urge to create order and its most basic function, a simple perfection, is continuity. The second principle is relationality and its perfection is symmetry. The third is dynamics and its rather complex perfection is harmony. If one were to go in the opposite direction of these three simple principles, one takes away value and goes in the direction of evil.
