Obi-Wan Kenobi a peaceful warrior. Perhaps we can
aspire to such wisdom. Another OBIE, an award for
Off-Broadway productions, looks for the new.

In these columns, we'll be trying to open dialogues about what is important in life.

O is for Opinion: A thesis.
Let us start with the opinion of someone who is influencing thinking, somebody whose ideas and concepts are having an effect on us all, especially those of us within business. Most often, the thesis will begin with an article, a book, a transcript, a speech or even a lecture.

We all have an opinion. So, let us begin with a person who is influencing the thought of our days.

What was said and why?

Small Business School

We explore the past. History gives us perspective and it is always a good place to begin. It creates the continuity condition for the OBIE. There are always events, measurements, and boundary conditions. What are these?

Our mission is to find the best practices within every discipline of work and lift up the stories of these people as roles models for each other and our children.

And, thus begins each OBIE.

B is for Blog: An antithesis.
Is another point of view possible? Is there a way of looking at that opinion and make the opposite conclusion?

This is the current discussion with constantly updated references. If this section were part of a show, it would be what we try to insert within the overview, also known as the executive summary and profile.

Small Business School

Let us ask the question, "What does it mean today? How does such an opinion effect us right now?

We explore the current moment.

Why do these concepts have persistence? What carrries them forward? We begin exploring the relational network of a cogent idea and attempt to discern opposing points of view.

We are not satisfied with things as they are and can envision a better future.

I is for Insight: Our synthesis.
Is there a new ground? Is there a new way to see an old idea? Is there a future that could unfold differently?

We assume the innocence and naïveté of the young and possibly ask the wrong questions, but at least we are questioning (for more, see the explanation of the name Small Business School).

Small Business School

Is a synthesis between the opinion and blog possible?

We explore the future. What are the possible projections ? What carrries these forward? If this were part of an episode of the show, it would be the future quadrant – the broadcasts, collaborations, interactive video, and podcasts.

E is for Editorial: A new thesis.
We explore the first principles, boundary conditions and attempt to understand the most basic definitions and the parts. If this were an episode of the show, it would be in the bottom left quadrant, always in green, where the case study guides are introduced.

Small Business School

What have we learned? What more can we learn? Is there a new value proposition? Can we go deeper?

The first principles of the show are reflected here.
