Step 3: Indepth TV profiles on Small
Business School
- As these lists get compiled and recompiled, it becomes
our Small Business Index of Learning Companies. Every business listed within
this web site is a candidate for a complete show. The entire crew of Small
Business School comes on your location for at least one day of shooting;
and when the show airs, it is seen on MainePBS stations, throughout the
USA, and even around the
world.
Our first story in Maine in 1995 was the Small Business
Person of the Year, selected by the US Small Business Administration. The
business, unfortunately, did not have staying power --
Custom Stitchers.
- Our salute to the MainePBS TV show, "Made in Maine."
- Living where they want to by "Marketing from a Distance."

Step
4: A Small
Business Index of Maine. We are looking for a special group of owners
and businesses who stand apart in very special ways. These business owners know
how to read their financials; they know their key critical ratios and how they
compare within their industry; and they have an exit strategy and a liquidity
model for their business.
These are the small business owners of the
future.
- ESOP /
SCOR.
Small Business School's work with state boards for accountancy
(CPAs) and each of the State Securities Commissioners to help small business owners
begin working from a "compilation - review" mindset to a regular audit. The
goal is to have business owners fully understand their financials and business
valuation so they successfully transfer ownership and keep their businesses
alive beyond their working years. Many of these businesses will then institute
ESOP programs and some will complete, certify and issue a Small Corporate Offering
Registration.
Here will be a listing of the small businesses
that have a qualified ESOP or SCOR program who have been recommended by their
local Chambers, SBDC, or MPBC.
