    A Working Agreement for Chambers of Commerce


    Today's date: _________________________________________________

    Purpose.   This document is the complete description of the working relation, dated this day,

    between the ___________________________________________________________________ ("the Chamber") and Small Business School ("the School"). Small Business School is a weekly, half-hour television show about best practices in business that began airing on PBS stations on September 3, 1994.

    The product. As a result of her many years of broadcasts, Small Business School now owns and has all rights to a large inventory of video clips ("Daily Tip") of key insights about starting, running and growing a business:

    • These Daily Tips (video) are from a diversity of business owners primarily in the USA.
    • These Daily Tips are between 1-5 minutes long and the average is about 2.5 minutes long.
    • Each Daily Tip has been aired on PBS-television stations throughout the USA and the Voice of America around the world. Many clips have also been published in the best-selling, business-school textbooks by Prentice Hall and Thomson Learning. There is no question about  quality or voracity of the content.
    • At the time of this document, the Daily Tips number over 2000 yet that number is growing.
    • These Daily Tips can be watched over the internet, also known as the world wide web. The high quality of the video stream in Flash requires broadband access.
    • The technology is in place to deliver a unique Daily Tip each day to a player that requires minimal programming to incorporate within a web site.
    • The Chamber is provided with code to embed within a page on their own website and with images to select  to place on prominent page(s) from which the chamber's visitors can click through to the Video Tip.  To see a sample page that is live on the web today, click here.  This page will be improved with the ideas and suggestions of participating chambers of commerce.
    • The Chamber is provided the technical information required to access their Page. 

    The Value to the Chamber are as follows:

    • Membership Retention Tool. The Page is a value-added service for the Chamber's membership. It is available for free for the chamber's web visitors. The intention is to provide an incentive for Chamber members to come to their chamber's site daily and to become regular users of the Daily Tip.  Chamber staff members could also benefit from becoming daily viewers of the Daily Tip as well.
    • Membership Recruitment Tool. Incorporated within the Daily Tips are a series of testimonials about the power of volunteering and being part of a local business association. 
    • Traffic Builder. Over the years, business owners have reported back to the school that these tips, once applied, helped them to turn businesses around.  Many have said, "The video is addictive."
    • Membership Enrichment. Some members will have insights of their own that they want to share with the world. These business owners can be encouraged to self-nominate, to populate an answer to a key question, and to qualify to be part of an episode.
    • Termination.  Small Business School may terminate this agreement with thirty days (30) notice.  The Chamber may terminate the agreement at anytime simply by deleting the page with the embedded code and any links to that page.
    • Costs:  There is no cost to the chamber or to the chamber's members.  There is no advertising.  This program is a service to chambers of commerce.  There is substantial history online about the work of Small Business School with the local and national chambers.
    • Official Signatures.  The individuals whose signatures appear below are the duly constituted legal authorities for their organizations or agencies, and have legal authority to enter into this Agreement.
